Josh Rucker joined the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) in July 2016 as the Deputy ADA Coordinator. As the Deputy ADA Coordinator, Josh is primarily responsible to assure University compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and other relevant federal and state laws pertaining to individuals with disabilities. As part of this role, Josh collaborates with university leadership on disability issues to develop appropriate policies, procedures and processes that respond to the needs of individuals with disabilities. He provides education, training and guidance to the University community in understanding disability access, rights, and responsibilities and is a member of the University Committee on Access and Accommodations.

Prior to joining OIE, Josh was a Compliance Manager for Access and Accommodations at Columbia University. He worked alongside university members and leadership to ensure accessibility for individuals with disabilities in areas including campus access, electronic and information technology, event planning, housing and academic accommodations, service and assistance animals, auxiliary aids and services and facilities. Josh served as a member of the Disability Access and Accommodations Committee at the Morningside campus and Columbia University Medical Center. Josh also served as an accessibility specialist with LCM Architects and Evan Terry Associates conducting national ADA audits and evaluations for Title II and Title III entities in higher education, healthcare, hospitality and business. Additionally, Josh was the Director of Fair Housing Accessibility FIRST, a Department of Housing and Urban Development initiative to promote compliance with the accessibility requirements under the federal Fair Housing Act.

Josh is a certified Accessibility Inspector / Plans Examiner through the International Code Council and a member of the National Association of ADA Coordinators. He is the Chair of the West Hartford Advisory Commission for Persons with Disabilities. Josh earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology at Clark University and a Master of Nonprofit Administration at the University of San Francisco School of Management.
